Mares of Thrace/The Pilgrimage/Sonic Unyon Metal/2012 CD Review

Mares  Of  Thrace  are  a  band  from  Hamilton,  Ontario  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  noise/doom/sludge  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "The  Pilgrimage"  which  was  released by  Sonic  Unyon  Metal.

Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  as  for  the  noise  effects  they  bring  a  very  dark  and  avant  garde  sound  to  the  music.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  sludge  with  doom  metal  mixed  in  with  a  great  amount  of  distortion  that  brings  in  the  atmospheric  and  noise  elements  into  the  music  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  metal/rock  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  sludge/noise  screams  mixed  with  some  deep  growls  and  a  brief  spoken  word  part,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Mares  of  thrace  are  a  very  great  sounding noise/doom/sludge  metal  hybrid  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  band. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS INCLUDE"The  Pragmantist"  "Triple  B"  and  "The  Goat  Thief".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
